Road Trip Planning Tools: Route Weather and Navigation
A road trip needs more than directions: you also need to know what weather you may encounter along the way. Use DriveWindow to connect the route forecast with your departure time, navigation for driving directions and official sources for warnings and closures. Each tool answers a different question.

Start with your route weather in DriveWindow
A destination forecast answers what may happen in one place. Your drive passes through several places at different times. DriveWindow for iPhone and iPad lets you review weather along the route and compare available departure options, so the forecast relates to the journey you intend to make. Enter your origin, destination and date to begin.
For UK location forecasts: Met Office
The Met Office offers location forecasts, weather maps and warning information. Use its forecast guide to understand the time period displayed, then check places along the route. A UK forecast is not a substitute for the national service in another country.
For US radar and weather context: National Weather Service
The NWS radar interface provides radar views with access to weather, alerts and forecasts for a location. Check the displayed time and the product you have selected. Do not treat a single radar frame as the forecast for an entire trip.
For closures on England’s major roads: National Highways
National Highways provides current incident information, travel alerts and planned closures for its network in England. Match the road you will use to that network; this is not a single all-Europe or all-UK road-status service. Use the local road authority when your journey leaves its coverage.
For a trip through Europe: plan the whole journey
Our Europe guide covers weather checks for cross-border journeys, mountain roads and coastal stretches. Compare route weather and departure options in DriveWindow, and account for local time when planning each part of the drive. Check official warnings and road information before departure.
